Blows to the Temple

Vernissage: Thursday 6
December 19:00 – 22:00

Exhibition: 6 – 9 December
2012

Blows to the Temple is an exhibition and publication launch by the autumn residents at Node Center for Curatorial Studies that explores the process of routines becoming
rituals. Rather than determine the boundaries of the two terms,
the project experiments with the interaction between routine and ritual as an integral element of daily
life.

The exhibition features
works by David Armstrong-Six, Ada Avetist, Shana Moulton, Marco Pezzotta, Shingo
Yoshida and Laura McLardy. Programming will include an activation of Crossing
The Room In One Step
by Laura McLardy on opening night, screenings and
artist talks with Adrian Brun (AR) and Dave Ball (UK), and a termination of Ada
Avetist’s works at the finissage. An accompanying publication features a
selection of artists and individuals working and living in the realm of rituals
– a pastor, a surgeon, an anthropologist, and a scientist. The publication
examines the oscillating roles and subjective conceptions of routines and
rituals.

Through the project’s
experimentation with the physical manifestation of routine practices and ritual
elements, we hope to initiate a dialogue about the potential of
elevating the everyday via routine and ritual.
